2001 Newsletter No 3

Vol: 3

Date: 19 Mar 2001

Webmaster Welcome

Welcome to the third issue of the ALSFITT Newsletter on the web! The first & second of the web based newsletters has been a great success. I have had lots of comments about the first & second newsletters, and I have received lots of pictures, clipping & articles as well as being promised lots of stories for future additions. Well, although this is not an official site I do request that your articles be kept on the clean side as I don't want this site banned from being viewed on intranet computers. So send me your articles and I will add them to this newsletter.

The idea of the newsletter is to bring news to all fellow ALSFITTs, SEW & Fabric Workers past and present. It can detail the things that are happening at your place of work and/or the social antics of your comrades around the various units. It could also detail the successes people have made since their release to the outside. Truth and accuracy should never stand in the way of a good funny yarn! I'm hoping the publishing of the newsletter on the web will be a great morale booster and hope all members look forward to its regular release.

Webmaster ALERT!
For security reasons this webpage has had all current events and news removed. From now on there will only be historical news and information in the web-based newsletters.

P.S. The webmaster reserves the right to edit articles of an extremely sensitive nature.

Past and/or present members, I need you to send me your articles (stories, pictures and/or graphics) if you want this newsletter to survive on the web. Any good stories will be included in the stories section of the site. Any pictures will be added to the pictures section of the site. Any information about past or present members will be amended in the member's lists area of the site. Any items for sale will be included in the products section of the site. Also if members wish to advertise their businesses I will add a link of your site in the links area of the site.

Let us know what you think and encourage everyone to check out this newsletter, it has great potential. I will try to correlate all the info I receive and keep everyone informed on the whereabouts of all ALSFITTs, SEWs & Fabric Workers past and present serving in the RAAF, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or anywhere else they may be.

The ALSFITT WEB WORM

The ALSFITT WEB WORM is the replacement for 'Dear Coly'. The worm is likely to pop up any where any time. If you have anything that you think the worm should know about, please tell the . All things the worm sees or hears will go in this section. Things that the worm has seen or heard recently are:

  • Well this is just to say that in an earlier edition of the 'Web Worm', it was rumoured that Tets was getting out. (click here to read and article from the 'Chair-man' himself),
  • I heard a rather funny story recently about a Life Support Fitter who had the traffic stopped in down town Adelaide during the ARMY's' 100th Anniversary. It 'Flashed' through the local constabulary's mind that this 'ALSFITT superhero' had had enough and was planning to jumping off the parliament house building. He was actually up there taking official photos. Yes he did have a camera and 'Flash' with him,
  • WANTED - If anyone knows of where they can get some cheap business cards please let the ALSFITT webmaster know. It was rumoured that there was approximately 1700 going very cheap, all that was needed was some pretty stickers to change the picture also a black texta and a dab hand to change the info on them,
  • I heard recently that Drinky's lovely wife gave birth to a bouncing little bub late last year. Drinky, I wish you, your wife and your bub all the best from all the many ALSFITTs/SEWs/Fabric Workers,
  • While we are on the subject, I heard recently that Hegs's lovely wife gave birth to a bouncing little bub. Hegs, I wish you, your wife and your bub all the best from all the many ALSFITTs/SEWs/Fabric Workers,
  • Rumour has it a Flight Sergeant, whilst doing his Logistics Managers Course, was trying to get into the aussie cricket team. Trouble was he was playing the wrong game. His 100+ of the club just didn't fit the aussie cricket team's needs,
  • I recently heard from Don & Maxine Stevenson. They have a couple of rug rats, and yep they are doing really well up in sunny QLD. In Stevo's word "Since leaving the RAAF we Owner-Built our house (Quite literally built it ourselves with help from my brother and friends) on 17 acres of land, its about 45 Km North West of Mackay. We haven't done a lot with the land yet except buy cattle to eat the grass, get fat, & go into the freezer, much to my daughters disgust. The best part about living on land is that you don't have neighbours or any traffic jams." Stevo has been accepted to study Teaching at CQU, Central Queensland University,
  • We had a star among our midst recently. He was involved in the opening minutes of a story on 60 Minutes about a survival course run in the west. Well, he's done us proud on showing the country how to regurgitate his food. Congrats goes to the young lad, now commonly known as "Spew" or "Chuck" Catling, you've done us proud, and
  • Rumour has it there is a Kiwi Safety & Surface Finisher attempting to jump ship and join our ranks. Good luck cobber!

Notices from fellow members

Hi Guys,
Well here I am on-line in my new humble abode on the 6th floor Darwin Plaza building. Well it has been a real head spin the first couple of days, and everything they say is true about the Govt Dept's. Have already been on several sight visits and met who some of my customers are. They have let me loose, I'm the guru on workstations and chairs and with the Education Dept as one of my major clients, I'm out at schools a lot of the time (I didn't know that there where so many of the things in Darwin). My first deployment will be Alice, very bad chair problems there! Anyway this is a quick one just to let you know you can contact me for my new address and phone number etc. If you e-mail me that way I can respond and also add your correct e-mail
Talk to you soon,
The 'Chair-man'
Tets.

I want your stories

We need stories to keep this newsletter afloat. They can be a section, base or personal story I don't care. Any news is good news. They can be from past members as well. Tell us all how you are going since you got out. Submit a story!

ALSFITT Reservists Search

I have been asked to search around and seek out all the ALSFITT Reservists. Once I get the names I will add a page within the site with all their names and hopefully E-Mail contacts as well. By having a list of Reservists and their contact, it will make it easier for anyone looking for someone to do some relief manning. So if you are a serving Reservists, or know of a serving Reservists, please contact the webmaster with the details.

where

This segment is designed to keep you informed of where your fellow trade members are now. This can either be 'retired members' or 'serving members'. If you know the whereabouts of your fellow members, drop me a line and I will include them in here.

  • In the LAST edition I promised I would include an article on one of our past members now (in his retirement) residing in Brisbane. (click here),

Some members of who have recently come to light are:

  • Scott Cowley & Scott Souter, now living around the Mackay area,
  • Another is David Patch.
I was and ex corporal SEW/ALSFITT, from Nov 82 until Nov 88. I was on straight through SEW course no. 9. Just to let you know that I now live in Tamworth N.S.W. I have been a N.S.W. Police Officer for 11 years, and am currently trying to get a part time job with British Aerospace at Tamworth servicing their flight helmets.
    Regards
